Baseball All-Conference Team and Awards
KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Appalachian Athletic Conference announced the 2023 Baseball All-AAC Team and Awards on Thursday.
Angel Mendoza of Union is the Player of the Year and the Newcomer of the Year, Andrew Herbert of Reinhardt is the Pitcher of the Year, Cody McGill of Tennessee Wesleyan is the Freshman of the Year, and Billy Berry of Tennessee Wesleyan is the Coach of the Year.
The awards were voted on and selected by the baseball coaches of the AAC.
Mendoza batted .424 with 23 home runs and 46 RBI during the regular season. He scored 46 times and lined seven doubles.
Herbert posted a 7-0 record in conference play. On the year, he went 8-1 with a league-best 2.84 ERA.
McGill batted .304 with six home runs, 25 RBI, and 25 runs scored.
Berry guided Tennessee Wesleyan to the regular-season championship with a 29-1 conference record.
Seventeen players earned a spot on the All-AAC First Team with 17 making the second team. Nine players made the Gold Glove Team. Dozens of players made the grade to earn a spot on the All-Academic Team, while 12 were named to the Champions of Character Team.
