Knights Take Game One Against Goshen
KCU was victorious against Goshen 5-3 on Friday.
Goshen opened the scoring in the second after Sam Goude induced Rubio to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.
Leo Guevara doubled, which helped Knights Varsity 23-24 tie the game at one in the bottom of the third.
KCU took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Cris Garcia hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, to give KCU the edge, 2-1.
Huffman homered to right field, which helped Goshen tie the game at two in the top of the fifth.
Goshen took the lead in the top of the sixth. Rubio drew a walk, scoring one run, to give Goshen the advantage, 3-2.
KCU jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Evan Juniper walked, Cody Holub walked, and Guevara walked, each scoring one run.
Jimijomar Matos earned the win for KCU. The reliever gave up zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking two.
Murphey took the loss for Goshen. They went one inning, giving up zero runs on zero hits, striking out one and walking three. Goude started on the bump for Knights Varsity 23-24. They surrendered eight hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking three. Lenn started on the mound for Goshen. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and two runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out none and walking six.
Guevara led KCU with three hits in three at bats. Juniper paced KCU with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up 11 walks for the game. The Knights turned one double play in the game.
