2024 Bassmaster College National Championship on Lake Hartwell
KCU bass fishing had 3 teams compete this past week in the Bassmaster College National Championship on Lake Hartwell in Anderson S.C. Out of over 11,000 anglers that weighed in throughout the year these 5 anglers qualified to fish against the best college anglers in the country.
Reece Keeney and Brantley Anders qualified at Douglas Lake in Jefferson, Tennessee.
Hayden Short qualified at Saginaw Bay in Bay City, MI
Elijah Kelley and Chris Baker qualified at Saginaw Bay in Bay City, MI
There were 168 teams competing for a chance to advance to the next step towards a spot to fish in the Bassmaster Classic, where they would be competing against the best anglers in the world for the Bassmaster Classic Championship trophy.
The Bassmaster college championship is a 3 day event. All 168 teams compete on days 1 and 2 with only the top 12 advancing to championship Saturday on day 3.
After day 1 and 2 Reece and Brantley were in 4th place with 27 lbs 15 oz.
Hayden finished in 53rd place with 19 lbs 15 oz and Elijah and Chris despite some boat issues finished in 95th place with 16 lbs 7 oz.
Reece and Brantley went into day 3 in 4th place and a great chance to bring home the win but their bigger fish didn’t want to cooperate. They weighed in a 5 fish limit of 6 lbs 11 oz for a 3 day total of 34 lbs 10 oz. which was good enough for a 9th place finish. The 3 teams earned a total of 598 points towards the school of the year in bass fishing. Congratulations! The next tournament will be on Kentucky Lake in Paris, Tennessee on September 21-22.
