Knights Golf Host Annual Tournament

Grayson, WV - The men's and women's golf teams played host to their annual Kentucky Christian University Golf Invitational.

The field for the 2019 version consisted of teams from the following schools:

Men:

Bluefield College

Columbia International University

Kentucky State University

Oakland City University

Roosevelt University

Shawnee State University

West Virginia Tech

University of Rio Grande

On the men's side of the tournament, Bluefield and Shawnee State tied for the title with a score of 613 followed by Roosevelt College in third place. For the Knights, Bricen Thompson (SO/Ashland, KY) had a team-low score of 168 (86-82) just ahead of the duo of Matthew Miller (JR/Hamilton, OH) 170 (87-83) and Collin Gay (SR/Lancaster, KY) 171 (89-82). Chandler Easterling (FR/Olive Hill, KY)'s 176 (88-88) and Caleb Castle (SR/Morehead, KY)'s 177 (86-91) round out the scoring for the Knights men's team.

For the women, UPike took the win with a score of 655 with Oakland City coming in second (696) followed by Rio Grande's third-place total of 711. The women's team finished sixth with Madeline Vonlinger (SO/Danville, KY) posting a 191 (96-95) followed closely by Elizabeth Henline (JR/Cincinnati, OH)'s 195 (100-95). Only three strokes separated Mallori Webb 198 (99-99) and Sidney Trimble (JR/West Liberty, KY) 201 (104-97) on the leaderboard. Rounding out the scoring for KCU was Sydnie Kozee (FR/Greenup, KY)'s 214 (102-112).

We would like the offer congratulations to the Bluefield College men's team for the exciting sudden-death playoff victory over Shawnee State University. Also congrats to B.J. Knox from Shawnee State for taking home medalist honors with a great score of 143. The women's winner, University of Pikeville, took home the trophy for the third straight year, and to Rafaella Gioffre from the University of Rio Grande for medalist honors with an exceptional score of 149.
